The purpose of this project is to develop a model, based on Life Cycle Cost Analysis
(LCCA) methodology, which could assist in the pavement selection process and hopefully
help to improve the road and street system.
The dramatic increase in traffic in built-up areas, such as the Capital Area, results in
more and more construction of new roads and modernization of old ones. Therefore, this
requires further studies on how road pavements are selected.
Agencies could make more informed and better investment decisions, because
pavement type has a significant impact on future cost and service quality. Traffic growth,
especially in heavy axle traffic, can cause damage to pavements much quicker than expected,
in turn causing more maintenance and thereby increasing agencies’ and users’ costs.
Pavement type decision is usually based on traffic level, soil conditions, atmospheric factors
and costs. In many cases, the initial construction cost is the main consideration; the future
maintenance and rehabilitation costs may sometimes be forgotten.

چکیده:
Nonuniform seismic motion affects the seismic behavior of large structures such as long-span bridges. Three main reasons for this nonuniformity have been identified. They are local soil conditions, wave passage, and incoherency effects. Other effects, such as extended source and attenuation, are relatively small. The importance of nonuniform seismic motions, especially for sensitive and important structures, has led to the development of several methods of analysis. This paper presents a direct frequency-domain method that is based on neural network and optimization. The use of this direct frequency-domain method for solving nonuniform seismic motions is shown. Finally, the application of the proposed method to a simple multiple particle damped system under harmonic loading is presented and the validity and feasibility of the transformation algorithm in time-domain and frequency-domain are numerically verified.

چکیــــده:

For studying the overall instability of members of steel structures, there are several methods in which overall buckling and geometrical imperfection effects considered in analysis. In first section, these methods are compared and ability of software to apply these methods is studied. Buckling loads determined from theoretical methods and software is compared for 2D one bay, one and two stories steel frames. To consider actual condition, buckling loads of three steel frames have various dimensions are calculated and compared. Also, uncertainties that exist in loading and modeling of structures such as geometrical imperfection, yield stress, and modulus of elasticity in buckling load of 2D framed steel structures have been studied. By performing these uncertainties to each reliability analysis procedures (first-order, second-order, and simulation methods of reliability), one index of reliability from each procedure is determined. These values are studied and compared.
